What is the Academy?

The Academy is a week-long professional learning experience where the participants will not only learn, but share and reflect through modeled scaffolds, strategies, engagement, interaction, “Tool in the Hand”, Actionable Feedback, Assessment, and Cultural Responsiveness, in a way educators would be expected to extend their learning to turn it around in their classroom practice.

When will the Academy transpire?

Our Academy will commence August 5, 2024 and close August 9, 2024. Sessions will commence at 8:00 a.m. and close at 3:00* p.m. daily. *Note Friday’s session will conclude at 12:00 p.m.

Where will the Academy take place?

The week-long academy will take place at the beautiful, Reading Public Museum, in Reading, Pennsylvania in a private setting for the participants. Parking is available on the museum grounds and across the street.

Why should you attend?

For far too long, educators have been asked to meet the needs of MLs/Educators in their classrooms/buildings without adequate training and support. In order to meet your needs, we encourage you to attend this academy: Designing and Building Bridges for ML in the Educational Landscape, where through learning, sharing and reflecting you will leave prepared and energized to work with MLs/Educators in your schools. Practical application and collaboration will enrich your experience during this week-long academy.

Presented by the Founder and President of HOPE, Esperanza “Macky” Wickert, M.Ed., with over 37 years of experience.

Learning, Sharing and Reflecting

(LSR) Academy

Why an Academy?

The word academy, with a minuscule a, (AKA: lower case, but note, in Spanish, minuscula is a commonly used word for lower case) refers to a school usually above the elementary level, such as a high school or college in which special subjects are taught. Academy with a majuscule A (AKA: upper case, but note, in Spanish, majuscula is regularly used by students to reference upper case) refers to a school for advanced education, as the one founded by Plato. It also refers to a society of learned persons organized to advance art, science, or literature.

We choose to label our Academy with a majuscule A to demonstrate our school for advanced education and that together, we, the presenter, and educators, are collaborating to advance the art and science of teaching MLs in our schools and universities.

Academia

The word itself comes from the Greek, Akademia, which was the name of the park or grove outside ancient Athens where Plato instructed his students. Academia is the life, community or world of teachers, schools, and education. Therefore, in our Academy, the community of educators and schools are uniting to learn, share and reflect. What better place than a museum, a virtual Plato’s park, to gather educators, advancing the art and science of teaching MLs.

The Academy will cover various targeted topics during the week, all having practical and essential application. The key components of the Academy (listed below) are embedded in the content during the five days across all aspects of learning, sharing, and reflecting.

What can you expect from the Academy for the benefit of ML instruction?
