Learning, Sharing and Reflecting

(LSR) Academy

Why an Academy?

The word academy refers to a school for advanced education, as the one founded by Plato. It also refers to a society of learned persons organized to advance art, science, or literature. We choose to label our Academy with a majuscule A to demonstrate our school for advanced education and that together, we, the presenter, and educators, are collaborating to advance the art and science of teaching MLs in our schools and universities.

Academia

Academia is the life, community or world of teachers, schools, and education. Therefore, in our Academy, the community of educators and schools are uniting to learn, share and reflect. What better place than a museum, a virtual Plato’s park, to gather educators, advancing the art and science of teaching MLs.

The Academy will cover various targeted topics during the week, all having practical and essential application. The key components of the Academy (listed below) are embedded in the content during the five days across all aspects of learning, sharing, and reflecting.

What can you expect from the Academy for the benefit of ML instruction?

    1. What are the standards?

    2. How will learners demonstrate their knowledge?

    1. Who is the person in front of you?

    2. What do they bring in their repertoire that would aid in their learning?

    1. Have you created a safe environment for all learners, (Third Space), revealing a welcoming space for collaboration, learning and risk taking?

    2. Have you gathered pertinent materials/resources/ books/tools for the learners?

    2. What will students be responsible for during engagement?

    1. What grouping configurations work best for the task AND the learners?

    2. What will students be responsible for during Interaction?

    1. What is my form of on-going assessment?

    2. How am I adapting the forthcoming lessons to meet student’s needs?

    3. What process is in place to review, for life-long learning (not solely for assessment)?

    1. What specifically, do students still need to meet the goals?

    2. What is a SPR (Single Point Rubric), what are the benefits of using one and how can I incorporate it?

    1. How will students know if they have met the goal/s?

    2. What can students do to further/correct their learning?

    1. How have I integrated culture/language into the learning/understanding?

    2. Am I aware of any cultural misconceptions that will impede/hinder learning/understanding?

    1. How am I communicating and sharing with other teachers/educators?

    2. Am I involved in meeting that impact the learner?
