Meet Esperanza (Macky) Wickert

About the founder

A passionate and dedicated, bilingual and bicultural educator, Esperanza has spent the last 37 years in the service of students, teachers, parents and community.

As an experienced public school teacher, ESL Assessment Specialist, Literacy and ESL Coach, University Spanish Instructor and Professional Development Facilitator for ESL, she has worked to ensure teachers have the training and tools necessary in order to offer all students access to comprehensible and rigorous instruction. Her areas of expertise include coaching, professional development facilitator, Recent Arrivals (Newcomer) Instruction and teaching. She is passionate in supporting teachers in their instruction of Recent Arrivals. Her sense of empathy, strong collaboration and interpersonal skills allow her to work with teachers and administrators to focus on change and growth. She believes in collaboration with multiple involved parties in order to provide services necessary to ensure student success. Most recently, she retired from her public education career to pursue her goals of creating her own brand of support for teachers. In November 2021, HOPE (Helping Other Professionals Excel) Educational Consulting Services was established to further serve teachers, administrators, families and communities in the constant pursuit of making things equitable for all learners. Through HOPE, she desires to solidify the connection between the ART and SCIENCE of teaching, where by knowing the learner and understanding the rationale allow teachers to succeed alongside their Emergent Bilinguals. Esperanza's strengths also include using data to inform instruction, lesson planning for different proficiency levels and accommodations and differentiation. She happily resides in Reading, Pennsylvania, with her husband and two dogs, Dakota and Shiloh, with her son and extended family nearby. But she loves to travel across the nation and Europe to share her expertise with those wanting to make a difference in the lives of teachers and Emergent Bilinguals.
